Frequently Asked Questions

What is backflow and why does it need to be tested?

Backflow is the unwanted reversal of water flow, which can allow contaminants to enter the clean water supply. To prevent this, backflow prevention assemblies are installed and must be tested annually to ensure they’re working properly. Regular testing is required by most water districts to keep your drinking water safe and compliant with local regulations.

How often do I need to have my backflow device tested?

Most water districts require annual testing of backflow prevention assemblies. Some locations may require testing more frequently based on the risk level of the property or system. We recommend scheduling your test before your due date to avoid penalties or service interruptions.

What happens if my backflow device fails the test?

If your device fails, we’ll walk you through the issue and provide a detailed repair recommendation. In most cases, we can repair or replace the device on the spot. Once repairs are complete, we’ll re-test the assembly and file the passing report directly with the local water authority.

Do you file the test report with the city or water district?

Yes. Certified Safe Backflow handles all test report submissions for you. We file directly with the required agency to ensure full compliance and give you peace of mind.

Do I need to be present during the test?

Not usually. As long as we have access to the backflow assembly and any locked enclosures, you do not need to be present. We’ll coordinate with you in advance and provide results after the test is completed.
